e-MkIS is a windows based marketing and sales information system which runs on stand-alone or networked PCs. It is designed to help sales managers and marketing departments of academic or other specialist publishers by recording information about their customers. The information stored can then be used to organise marketing through sales visits, mailing campaigns and targeted inspection copies; all aimed at achieving a high level of adoption. If information on competitive titles is held, then management information can be produced to show the effectiveness of certain titles against the competition; an invaluable tool to both marketing and editorial departments. While the standard system allows reps to take inspection copy 'orders', a further module permits reps to have access to full order entry; making the system suitable for trade publishers as well as academic.

What information can be held?

Customers - Institutions, names of contacts and their interests, books currently used, courses run for ease of targeting. Salespersons - Personal details, statistics on visits, inspection books sent and much more Titles - ISBN, title and author of own and competing titles. Transactions - A history of appointments, visits, follow up, sales, inspection copies and orders (if Portable Ordering System module is present).

How can the information be used?

All information can be viewed either on the screen or on hard copy report. There are many standard reports, and a facility exists to customise or create new ones. The information can be sorted in different sequences and filtered so that only that which satisfies certain criteria is shown, making targeting and analysis much simpler. Advanced searching and filtering techniques make it easy to find customers or contacts. Alpha transliteration is available for matching words with alternative spellings. (e.g. Names starting 'Mc' or 'Mac'). This can be customised for individual requirements. Mail merge files can be created for export to MS-Word to print campaign/promotion or 'form' letters. Information can be exported to MS-Excel or MS-PowerPoint for further analysis and reporting.
